Manually Optimize Windows 7 Service

There are already many computer users using Windows7 even though the configuration is not very high. How to make low-profile computer run Windows7more smoothly? Although some software provide fool-based optimizations, these optimizations confuse users a lot and they do not know whether it’s effective. In this article I give some tricks for manually optimizing Windows 7, especially the system services.
We first understand some knowledge of system services, then provide targeted services clean-up program for Windows7system according to the diverse needs of Windows7users, improving Windows7 speed.
What is the service?

Service is the system program or process used to perform the specified system function, its purpose is to support other applications, usually it’s running in the background. Compared with the running program, service program does not appear program window or dialog box. We only can see them in the Task Manager.
How to modify the service startup type?
In Win 7 Start Menu “Search programs and files” column type “services.msc” or “service” to search for “services”, then click the list you can open the services management window. Double-click any service to view or modify its properties, in the Properties window you can modify the startup type to “Manual”, “automatic”, “Automatic (Delayed Start)” or “Disabled.”
What is the difference between “Automatic” and “Automatic (Delayed Start)”?

“Automatic” start means the computer will load the service item at startup in order to support other running programs on the basis of this service. The “Automatic (Delayed Start)” is a very humane design in Windows7. Start in this way, you can delay to start the service item after a period of booting system, which can solve the problems of slow startup or slow response because the low-profile computer loads too many service items.
What is the difference between “Manual” and “disabled”?

In the “Manual” case, although the process is off, it can still be activated in a particular case, but if the service start is set to “disabled”, service will not run unless the user manually modify the property.
What services need to start manually?

“Manual” mode, as the name suggests this service will not load as the system starts, users have to start it manually or modify its properties to “automatic” after other services are activation or the user goes in the service management interface. This model is commonly used when we have to open the disabled function. Take “Application Identity” services for example, in default the service is in “Manual” state, that is it does not start. But when users need to use AppLocker, they must manually enable this service (change to “automatic” state), or AppLocker function will not work.
What should pay attention to when modify the system service?

Modifying the system service may cause some unexpected problems, so we’d better backup the default service states before changing. Open service manager window then click “operation → Export List”, then select “Save as” as TXT or CSV file. I suggest save as CSV file because the document can be opened in Excel.
In addition, if we normally enter the system because of the errors while modifying the service, we can press F8 to boot into safe mode, then modify the service startup properties in safe mode.

Optimize Windows 7- disable unnecessary services

Genuine Windows7 has sold 400 million, and piracy Windows7 (most Win7 Ultimate) has become more popular, while the risks are also high. We may download a virus during download process, Win7 activation may also lead to Win7 crash.
Many users want their Windows7 run more smoothly, run faster, but most users are unable to find a way to speed up the system! In fact, we can use some small tricks to optimize Windows7 on the fly!
Here’s one way to optimize Windows7 quickly – to disable Win 7 unnecessary services.
In Windows7, there are many services that many users do not have to access. After disabling unnecessary services, you can save some resources for the system, can improve Win 7 operating speed. Anyway, we don’t have to use the unnecessary services, turning off unnecessary services can improve PC speed, why not close these unnecessary services?
Here I introduce a simple way to stop unnecessary services.
First open the “Start” menu, go to “Control Panel”, then go to “Programs”,  then in “turned on or off Windows features”  uncheck the services that you do not need at all, such as games, Windows Media Player and so on. Stopping these unnecessary services can save PC resources, can speed up PC instantly, why not do disable them?

Change Power Options to Speed up Windows 7

Win7 new users may have questions why my 3DMark test scores in Win7  is not as high as other users under the same configuration, or when playing certain 3D games my computer will freeze occasionally the, how can I do?
In fact, these problems are likely related to your power options of Win7 system. Those who are familiar with Win7 system know two characteristics of the power options. First, in the desktop Win7 systems, there is no power Options icon at the right of taskbar, but and in the notebook, there is.
Second, regardless of the version Win7 system, after the default installation we are using “balanced” power management, to open the detailed settings menu of this power program you can see a PCI-Express related with graphics power is set to “medium power save”.
This means that under the default the graphic does not run at full speed, resulting in the above-mentioned unsatisfied performance test results. And it’s not difficult to understand why Win7 will occasionally freeze while playing game.
I have specifically contrasted 3DMark tests between Win7 default programs’ balanced power and high-performance solutions, at the same scene, the former is slower an average of 3-5 frames per second than the latter, even more obvious at the complexity scene .
In fact, it is easy to solve, we just switch to “high performance” power plan before running the test or playing the game.
However, this is easy for laptop users, but there is not the power options icon on the taskbar on desktop Win 7. We have to open the Control Panel, then find the power options, each switch will be so troublesome. The following I give you two ways easier to switch to power options.
Option One: shortcut + Custom shortcuts

Since the Power Options icon exist in Control Panel, you can create a shortcut to the desktop, and add custom shortcuts to quickly open the Power Options to achieve the purpose.
The Setting is very simple. Turn into the control panel, right-click on Power Options icon, select “Create Shortcut”. Back to the desktop, right-click the shortcut – Properties, in the pop-up window find the “shortcut key”, enter a custom shortcut key, enter “Shift + Alt + P”. Later as long as we press after the custom shortcut, we can quickly open the Power Options window.
Option Two:
If you think that the first method is also not fast enough, then I recommend the second method. Win7 system coming with Powercfg.exe is the command-line of power options. In the command, run the command so that we can not only view the current system power scheme, can also switch to the effect with a button to.
On the desktop create a new Notepad, and change the extension from txt to bat, and then enter the following:
% SYSTEMROOT% \ System32 \ powercfg.exe-setactive 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c
Rename the file to “high-performance power solutions,” and save. If you need to switch back to “balance” or “energy” program, please refer to the above operation, respectively enter the following to:
% SYSTEMROOT% \ System32 \ powercfg.exe-setactive 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e
% SYSTEMROOT% \ System32 \ powercfg.exe-setactive a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a
In fact, you only have to slightly modify, using the first method to create a shortcut and custom shortcuts for the second option, then you can achieve to switch the power with a key.

Hidden registry slows your computer down. Find and clean up registry!

There are in your computer registry that you may never use. The registry probably slows your PC down. What are needed and what unwanted. You may all know how to delete the unneeded fonts and backup files. How can you clean up registry unwanted? You will find the answer here. Note: Before doing the following procedures, you should back up the Windows registry for restore in case you clean up some needed registry.
Remove the redundant virtual drive icon
After a virtual drive is installed in the system, an extra CD-ROM icon appears in “My Computer”. The virtual drive icon remains there even if the virtual drive is no longer used. So the icon should be deleted. Click the “Start → Run”, input the “regedit” command to open the Registry Editor, unfold HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Enum \ SCSI branch. There are under SCSI usually two sub-keys which correspond to the virtual drive and physical drive. Delete all the sub-keys under SCSI and restart the computer. The virtual drive icon has been removed.
Remove redundant system-level icon
System-level icons refer to those automatically created by system when installing Windows, such as Recycle Bin, Inbox, Network Neighborhood, etc. Some of them are useless for users. Open the Registry Editor, and unfold HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \Windows \ CurrentVersion \ explorer \ Desktop \ NameSpace then delete the unwanted sub-keys.
Delete redundant options in “Find”
Unfold HKEY_USER \ Default \ Software \Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Doc-FindSpecMRU, delete the relevant keys in the right-side window. This may in a way speed up your PC.
Remove the unneeded keyboard layout
Windows is trying to become users friendly. So the keyboard layouts are suitable for people from different countries. Open the Registry Editor, unfold HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\KeyboardLayouts, then you’ll see Spanish (Traditional), Danish, German (Standard) and other keyboard layouts. Delete these sub-keys if you do not use the layouts.
Remove the Locale
Similar to the keyboard layouts mentioned above you should also clean up registry of the Locale. In the Registry Editor, unfold HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Nls \ Locale. If you only use Simplified Chinese, just keep the key “00,000,804″ and delete the others.
